Awards began to accumulate over 40 years ago when the classic cars that David Mock built were put into local area auto shows. Every car won its class.
In 1974 Dave customized his first van. He introduced it at the largest van show in the area and startled the industry by winning best in class awards for paint, interior and overall best van. Dave realized that if he was to customize vehicles for a living, his philosophy had to be to build the best.
It is this philosophy that would help launch the company bearing his name and set the stage for a series of brilliant innovations and numerous awards that would earn D M Conversions (DMC) a place of honor in the industry.
In 1984 DMC was among 50 firms nationwide selected by Chrysler Corp to compete in customizing their new Mini Ram Van, a cargo version of the 1984 Dodge Voyager, and Dodge Caravan. In less than 5 weeks DMC converted the bare cargo van into a luxurious passenger van complete with captains’ chairs, tv and stereo system, and a sofa bed. The van’s exterior received a custom high top, custom built spoiler, side body ground effects, and a dazzling multi-color Kandy paint job. The van was then shipped to Detroit’s Cobo Hall to compete against the other 49 entries. DMC was one of the smallest firms yet won the $5,000 cash award for “Best Highline Conversion”.
Now DMC was recognized as one of the BEST. Soon DMC secured contracts with Ford, Dodge, Chrysler, Chevrolet, and GMC to be a final stage manufacturer of custom vans, pickups, and SUV’s. During these years, DMC continued to win the majority of “The Big Three” factory awards including:
- Best in the Nation for Quality and Engineering from Ford in 1992
- Quality “Excellence” Awards from Ford in 1994 and 1995
- Quality Engineering awards from Chevrolet in 1996 and 1997
- The “#1 Retail Turn-over” award from Chrysler Corp in 2001 recognizing that DMC had the fastest selling custom vehicles in the country.
In recent years, as the demand for custom vans, pickups, and SUV’s declined, dmc focused on classic car restorations. The experience from customizing over 15,000 highline vans and trucks, along with production, engineering and safety knowledge gained over decades, has proven to be a powerful asset for dmc. DMC builds vehicles as if they were their own. Building the best maintains satisfied customers who win awards.
